Saturday December 2-Sunday December 3, 2006: “Sierra Vista Overnighter: Fort Huachuca Historic Homes Open House, Coronado National Memorial, and Beatty’s Birds in Miller Canyon” tour with Dr. Stephen H. Buck, departing from Tucson International Airport Park & Save lot (near TIA entrance, SE corner of Tucson Blvd. & Corona Dr.). 9 a.m. Saturday-5 p.m. Sunday. Fee ****TBA**** ($ **** for Old Pueblo Archaeology Center and Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary members). Sign up by September 1 to save $25 per person. Visit the museums at the National Historic Landmark site of Fort Huachuca plus the Coronado National Memorial, Our Lady of the Sierras Shrine, the San Pedro House, and scenic Ramsey Canyon, and look for feathered winter visitors at Beatty’s Orchard, Apiary, and Leopard Frog Preserve at the top of Miller Canyon. This tour’s gem will be the annual Fort Huachuca Historic Homes Open House on Sunday, and there will be en-route stops at the Amerind Foundation Museum, the eclectic Singing Wind Book Shop in Benson, the Dragoon Springs Butterfield Stage Stop ruins in Dragoon, and Fairbank ghost town. Tuesday December 12, 2006: “Central Tohono O’odham Nation: People and Archaeology” Pima Community College study tour ST146, CRN 70567, via passenger van departing from Pima Community College, 401 N. Bonita Ave., Tucson. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. $69. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center’s director, archaeologist Allen Dart, leads van tour to Ventana Cave archaeological site and rock art, villages in the Santa Rosa, Kaka, and Quijotoa valleys, Tohono O’odham government complex in Sells, and a reservation trading post.
