Thursday June 7-Sunday June 10, 2007:  “Mesa Verde-Crow Canyon Children and Parents Archaeology Expedition,” a children’s cultural learning trip to Mesa Verde National Park & Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, Colorado, departing from Old Pueblo Archaeology Center, 5100 W. Ina Road Bldg. 8, in the Marana Town Limits, Arizona. 8 a.m. Thursday -6 p.m. Sunday. Fee $499. This is a “parent-and-child” learning expedition in which each participating child (primarily grades 3-7) must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. This archaeologist-guided learning expedition is designed to allow a child and parent to learn about the Southwest’s Ancestral Puebloan and Sinagua peoples together. Expedition will visit Colorado’s Mesa Verde National Park, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, and the Anasazi Heritage Center, plus major archaeological monuments in Arizona. Park rangers and knowledgeable local guides will take us to see Mesa Verde’s major cliff dwellings and pueblo ruins. Crow Canyon Archaeological Center will present its renowned “Discovering the Past” children’s learning program about Four Corners-area archaeology and take us to visit its archaeological excavations at Goodman Point Pueblo. Trip includes visits to Arizona’s Montezuma Well, Wupatki, and Sunset Crater National Monuments, the Betatakin Ruin overlook and museum at Navajo National Monument, Arizona, and the Four Corners Monument where you can stand in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah all at once! Each child must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult who pays the full program fee. Coach transportation and some meals provided. Participants supply own bedding and towels for 1-night stay at Crow Canyon’s dormitory-style common sleeping rooms, spend the other two nights in hotel in Cortez, Colorado.
